Glaucoma Testing

Many people mistakenly believe that the air puff test is the complete test for glaucoma. This is simply not true. Almost half of the glaucoma cases in the U.S. cannot be detected with pressure tests. More advanced instruments are necessary for the early detection of glaucoma.

Accent on Eyes' new instrument, the RTA (Retinal Thickness Analyzer) is a high-tech ophthalmic instrument that assists the doctor in the early diagnosis of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, two of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. It can also aid in the diagnosis of other diseases and eye problems like age-related macular degeneration and macular holes.

Dr. McIntyre recommends this test in addition to the basic vision exam in order to fully assess a patient's eye health. An exam including the RTA may help protect your vision by helping the doctor detect sight-threatening conditions before they become a problem.
